A familiar street, revisited

Pay attention to the space between destinations.

Take a familiar street at a slower pace. Look at the width of the pavement, the rhythm of doorways, and the places where people pause. A bench, a patch of shade, or a shop window can change how a small stretch of street is used.

Visit at another time of day if you can. Light, deliveries, school journeys, and evening walks give the same buildings a different setting. There is no need to record people in detail; notes about movement and public space are enough.

When you return, sketch the route from memory. The gaps in the drawing can be useful. They show which parts of the walk attracted your attention and which parts passed unnoticed.
